GLOBALG.A.P.

HD NordicTrees now offers certified Christmas trees.

Responsible production = Environmental advantage

HD NordicTrees' production of Christmas trees are certified according to GLOBALG.A.P. standard.

GLOBALG.A.P. stands for (GlobalGood Agricultural Practice) "Global good practices for agriculture/farmership."

A certification by GLOBALG.A.P. requires a responsible production.

By cultivating the Christmas trees according to the GLOBALG.A.P. standard the burden on the environment will be reduced as the consumption of pesticides and other adjuvants is reduced to an absolute minimum.

How come that HedeDanmark has chosen to let itself certify?

"We want to help showing the way how to produce high quality Christmas trees in a responsible manner. In our production we take the greatest environmental concerns, taking into account that it must also be good business to grow Christmas trees for the European export markets," sales manager Michael Søborg Jørgensen says.

Larger European retail chains already demand certified products, so they towards their customers can vouch that the products are responsible produced. In the future certification as a competitive tool will be in line with quality and price. In a market with an expected greater range of Nordmann fir in the coming years, certified products will probably be easier to sell than those not certified.

"As a producer, there is also an economic incentive in growing in line with the GLOBALG.A.P. standard, since all processes in the cultivation are reviewed and the cultivation of trees takes place after the motto: As little as possible - as much as necessary." Often, we will save money on cultivation of our Christmas tree areas since cultivation is tailored our requirements instead of simply following a model, and also the working procedures are being streamlined," forester Mikkel Vagn Kristensen says. Mikkel Vagn Kristensen supervises the production of Christmas trees at HD NordicTrees.

Through certified production unnecessary processes are avoided, the environment is spared from unnecessary stress, and at the same time good routines for performance of work in practice are worked out.
